It’s a common refrain, how best to handle the media. The impression is a relationship of combat rather than cooperation, but in most instances this is far from the case. In my training I teach people how to have a reciprocal relationship with the media and how to maximise the opportunities it offers for publicity or to disseminate information. Working either by myself or in conjunction with colleagues, I deliver tailor-made courses for individuals and groups, whether for companies, institutions or voluntary bodies, or for people representing themselves.
As a media trainer I draw on over twenty years experience working in television as a journalist and producer. During this time I have interviewed a diverse range of people, from prominent politicians and international figureheads to ordinary people, often with extraordinary stories to tell. As a journalist, I work to enable interviewees to express themselves with confidence and clarity. Similarly in the training, I tutor people in the skills necessary to ensure they engage effectively with the media. In addition to interview training I also offer courses in writing for news, whether presenting stories in press releases or writing articles for print or web publication.
